The Apple Never Falls Far From the Tree!

Having girls, it's not surprising they enjoy making play food out of Play-Doh and serving it to us on their toy dish set. What is (but probably shouldn't be) surprising is how much they actually pay attention to what their father does around the house. I guess it really is true that children emulate their parents. Here is a lovely electrical schematic, courtesy of Cayla. Then Autumn, not to be outdone, actually built (well, kind of) the schematic with her Bendaroos ropes. My little prodigies; the engineer and the electrician!

Must. Not. Talk. Politics.

Although it's my blog, I feel the need to apologize for all of my political posts. I am quite passionate about politics though, so it's really hard for me to just leave it alone! I will at least be quick here. AIG is irritating me. It didn't take a rocket scientist to realize that you don't put money back into the hands of the mishandlers. And yet.....that's just what the government did! By the grace of our Holy and Magnificent God, my husband is still gainfully employed. But if he were one of the thousands of people in this country looking for work, I'd be irate that my tax dollars were being spent on bonuses when my husband wasn't even earning a regular check! OK, that's all I'm going to say about it......................for now :)

A Little Political Humor!

My aunt sent this to me. Maybe you've seen it before, but it's pretty funny. Enjoy, and have a great Thursday!!! The Plan Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the White House. One is from Chicago , another is from Tennessee , and the third is from Minnesota. All three go with a White House official to examine the fence: The Minnesota contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring, then works some figures with a pencil. "Well," he says, "I figure the job will run about $900: $400 for materials, $400 for My crew and $100 profit for me." The Tennessee contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says, "I can do this job for $700: $300 for materials, $300 for my crew and $100 profit for me." The Chicago contractor doesn't measure or figure, but leans over to the White House official and whispers, "$2,700." The official, incredulous, says, "You didn't even measure like the other guys! How did you come up with such a high figure?" The Chicago contractor whispers back, "$1000 for me, $1000 for you, and we hire the guy from Tennessee to fix the fence." "Done!" replies the government official. And that, my friends, is how the new stimulus plan will work.

Devotional!

Over the past decade I've tried a number of devotional books and pamphlets, but always find that something about them falls short and I end up tossing it aside and going back to the tried and true. That is, picking a book of the Bible (love Psalms and Proverbs), reading a few passages, making my own life application out of it and spending the remaining time in prayer. Lately I've tried something new. LifeWay has an online devotional that they will e-mail you each day. I love it because it's right there on my computer, which is where I land first thing each morning, so right after breakfast I can dive right in. Sounds great right? Wrong! While the devotionals are very good, and quite interesting, they really lack substance. If the purpose of a devotional is to spend time with God, then these devotionals are the equivalent of meeting God at the drive-thru window, picking up your order and jetting out. I like a devotional that 'invites' me to sit down with God, and enjoy some quality time to study, ponder and pray. I think a devotional for mom's might be great, because I should be able to relate to everything in it. Sometimes generic devotionals are too random and those are the ones I quit. If you've been through a devotional that you just love, please let me know the name of the book. I am willing to order it on Amazon, pick it up at the christian bookstore, or have it sent to me online - just send your suggestions........Yes Nina, I'm talking to you :)

Spring Springeth!

Even though it's still a couple of weeks away, when the calendar flips to March, it's spring to me.

What I love about spring:

1)  Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine

2)  Flowers

3)  Being outside

4)  The temperature is just right - not too hot, not too cold!

5)  The trees start to bud

6)  EASTER

7)  Pastel colors come back into fashion and white shoes are acceptable again

8)  Yard-sale season begins

9)  Crickets start chirping again

10) My car stays clean for more than 10 minutes when I wash it :)

Making Choices!

My good friend Juli, over at "Abundantly Blessed" blog site has really been struggling with her daughter's schooling this past year.  I won't give you all the details since you could go over and read them yourself, but suffice it to say, she's had to make some difficult choices this year. Along with all the privileges and joys of parenthood, there's also a mountain of tough choices that need to be made.  And while I'm not to the point yet, I can only imagine that it's even more difficult when those tough choices have to be made by the child and I cannot make the decisions for them.  I'm guessing it gets more complicated when the child makes the wrong choice (aka, not MY choice :) but this is why we have a loving Savior who draws us to Him and longs to help us in every aspect of our lives.

With all of that said, our local area is holding a special election right now.  It involves school issues, which means, higher property taxes if the levies pass.  This is a genuine struggle for me because as a home school parent I do not take advantage of the public education system, so it's tough for me to vote to raise my taxes when I won't see the benefit of those tax dollars.  The catch-22 is that when the public school's update their facilities my husband's company often wins the bid to upgrade all of the technology, and that obviously means he's staying busy at work.

I ALMOST think I liked it better when my only choices in life were Lucky Charms or Fruit Loops.....almost.
